The Mares

Isah

This small typey yet elegant mare was the first purchase for Silver Maple Farm, Inc. in 1989. "I fell in love with her huge dark eyes and sweet disposition." Isah, happened to be in foal to Ruminaja Ali for her first foal. Isah was my riding mare and she taught me a lot, most of all to be light with my hands. As a young mare her personality reminded breeder and long-time friend, Judy Jones (Atallah Arabians) of Black Beauty's equine friend, the pony Merry Legs.

Henry and I purchased her without keeping the foal, a bay colt named Issahgwah. We enjoyed so much the experience and liked her foal's quality that we bred her right back. For a small mare she produces very tall horses. Two daughters have been retained for breeding, both sired by our homebred stallion, Ali Saroukh.

Isah has created many memories for us over the years. Her personality always captivates new visitors to the farm. "My favorite story of this mare is the night I went to do the last haying and barn check. I wore a long denim skirt, having come from dinner. When I entered her stall, Isah walked all around me once, then very gently lifted my skirt, as if to look for my legs." "Once she saw them, back she went to her hay."

Isah has a rare and unique bloody thumbprint (red) on her forehead, a special mark of blessing by Allah. We feel blessed to have this mare at our farm. Isah is by the late great Straight Egyptian sire, El Hilal and traces in her female line to Gainey, (American) Crabbet, (England) and Spanish bloodlines.
