The 2005 Egyptian Event –
Silver Maple Farm
Celebrates Beautiful Horses
And Fabulous Friends

This year’s Egyptian Event was one of the most challenging ever! The horses being shown were among the best we have ever seen. The classes had wonderful quality and there were horses presented that we believe any Arabian horse breeder would be proud to own. Although some of the classes were small in size – this seems to be an industry trend which needs every breeder’s attention - there were also classes with over 30 horses presented. These are actually some of the largest classes in the country rivaling in numbers those at the prestigious Scottsdale show and the National Championships. Considering that Egyptian bloodlines represent only 2-4 percent of the overall Arabian population in the world, this is really quite remarkable! It speaks volumes about the depth of the dedication and commitment of Egyptian Breeders.

This year the Silver Maple Farm show string included eight horses, both straight Egyptian and Egyptian-Sired. We were very proud of how well they represented our breeding program and we were very, very appreciative of the exceptional job the handlers did in presenting our horses. Henry and I feel very strongly that our horses should always be shown in a respectful way with as little stress and pressure as possible. This was very evident in how our horse showed and our thanks go to Silver Maple Farm trainer, Keith Wakefield, Michael Byatt of Michael Byatt Arabians and Gerard Paty of PacificaTrainingCenter for presenting our horses so beautifully.

The Egyptian Event is our favorite show. One of our favorite things about the Event is seeing all of our friends, old and new, and catching up with what they have been able to accomplish over the year. This is a special time to enjoy the camaraderie of our fellow breeders as well as take part in all the crazy things that come along with attending this breeders’ event. Personally, we think everyone who survived the heat at the Event this year should receive a gold star for valor or at the very least, a bronzed model of an air conditioner. The horrendous heat was the worst we have ever experienced and amazingly, everyone still seemed to be able to maintain good spirits and have fun.

SMF arrived at the KentuckyHorsePark with eight horses to show and had an unprecedented six horses in the championships. None of this would have been possible without the support of Silver Maple Farm’s team! Henry and I thank Ann Marie Linn, SMF office Manager and Christie’s sister, Darryl Larson (on camera), Debby Cain (loyal friend assisting in the Pyramid Foundation Booth) while working inside the very warm and humid arena helping friends and clients. Grooms, Katie Condit, Mahlena Larsen and Ismail Ramirez aided trainers, Keith Wakefield, Gerard Paty of Pacifica and Michael Byatt of MichaelByattTrainingCenter in caring for and presenting horses.
