Farm Manager

Emily Devers

In December of 2006, Emily Devers accepted a position as the new Farm Manager of Silver Maple Farm. In addition to her broad experience in equine managment and reproduction, Emily is energetic, enthusiastic and dedicated to the horses in her care. Silver Maple owners, Christie and Henry Metz are thrilled that she has chosen to come to California to join the team. "We had heard wonderful things about Emily," says Christie, "and after meeting her it was obvious that she would be a terrific addition to our farm. Both Henry and I are thrilled that she chose to come to California to manage our horses.

Like many young women, Emily fell in love with horses and soon began riding and showing hunters and jumpers in her home state of Michigan. Her first experience with an Arabian occurred when she had the opportunity to ride one at a local stable. "I thought she was beautiful!" Emily recalls. Now, after working extensively with Arabians as well as other horses, Emily has truly fallen in love with the breed. "Arabians are unique," she states, "and their great personalities definitely distinguish them from other breeds. Working with them is always fun because they have such an affinity with humans and a great willingness to please."

A member of the Arabian Horse Association since 1991, Emily has successfully shown Arabians both regionally and nationally. She also boasts a formal education in the equine realm, holding an Associate's Degree in Horse Management as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science, both from Michigan State University. Emily is also certified in Equine Reproduction Management and Artificial Insemination from Colorado State University.

While a student at Michigan State, Emily was in charge of breeding and foaling for their historic herd of over 90 Arabians horses. She also trained and conditioned the University's Arabians for both the show and auction arenas. This hands-on experience as well as her extensive academic background makes her well qualified to manage the Silver Maple Herd.

When asked about her favorite part of her management duties, Emily states that she especially enjoys working with breeding horses. "There is nothing better than seeing a foal born," she explains, "and then watching it grow, develop, and succeed. It is a fantastic feeling knowing that you helped bring that foal into the world!"
